This traditional Oktoberfest beginning comes from the original Munich Oktoberfest. All beer at Oktoberfest must be brewed in the city of Munich, and the mayor of Munich taps the first keg to open the festival. At Oktoberfest Columbia, Mayor Steve Benjamin joins our own Pastor Jane Mitcham and the SC Synod Bishop Herman Yoos to tap the first keg and ceremoniously open our great festival.
