One of the things I love most about Oktoberfest is seeing everyone have a great time. Life is busy so, sometimes, Oktoberfest is where I see friends I haven't seen in a while. I have a friend who snaps a picture of me with her (precious) son each year. Not only does it mean a lot to me that they return year after year (sometimes several times over the weekend!) but I appreciate her capturing the moment. 

Grab a friend and come enjoy some delicious food, beer and homemade pastries. I bet you'll enjoy some great fellowship, too.

​"You mean you serve beer??? at a CHURCH?" 

Yes. Oktoberfest is a uniquely German festival, and the Protestant Reformation (and the Lutheran denomination) began in Germany. So we feel a connection to our German forebears, even if most of us are pretty far removed from Germany.

Our mission is to show God's love for all through hospitality, and to promote the well-being of Incarnation Lutheran Church and the larger community. We want everyone to know they are welcome at church. Come on down, have fun, drink a beer with us!

Our proceeds benefit the youth of our church, who work very hard during our festival, and Lutheran Services Carolinas. You'll want to check them out. They do lots of good work.

What is O'zapft is! and why is the Mayor here saying it?
This traditional Oktoberfest beginning comes from the original Munich Oktoberfest. All beer at Oktoberfest must be brewed in the city of Munich, and the mayor of Munich taps the first keg to open the festival. At Oktoberfest Columbia, Mayor Steve Benjamin joins our own Pastor Jane Mitcham and the SC Synod Bishop Herman Yoos to tap the first keg and ceremoniously open our great festival.
